I had way too many blog subscriptions in my Google reader! I knew I did, but really didn’t want to take the time to go through each one to decide which ones should be deleted.
Earlier in the week I found a post in a blog that I had not yet followed (I do now! It can be found here!) that described her Google reader overload along with her solution to begin cutting them down.
So I decided to try it her way with a few differences. My way is a little more time consuming…I did not create a keeper file because I wanted my blogs separated by specific categories. I am still working on them though…my Google reader is still a bit of a mess! Other than that I did star items I was interested in to look at later/save.
I started out with almost 200 blog subscriptions–I wish I remembered the exact amount. I thought I wrote it down, but I cannot find it now. I know it was somewhere between 150 and 210, though I vaguely have a recollection in the 170s! LOL!
See that’s what I get for not writing things down! I’ll probably find it after I post this!
Anyhoo! I’ve been deleting like crazy and I’m now down to 93!
There are a few categories that I have yet to go through: Genealogy, Personal, and Mind-Mapping. I know there are some I can remove, but I need to spend some more time seeing which ones I like more first.
At the same time, I do want to find new and interesting (to me) blogs that don’t have posts that are too similar to the blogs I already subscribe to (the only exception is personal blogs). For example, I may have two blogs that both talk about the same subject constantly so I’ll delete the one I do not resonate with.
I’m very partial to personal blogs in any category that I can feel a connection to the person writing–someone I can relate to because we have similar lifestyles, interests, and/or issues.
If you have a blog that you think I may be interested in, feel free to leave it here in the comments for me. But I will delete any that are spam (though my spam filter may catch it first anyway) — any kind of sales blog, company blogs, etc.
I hope to come up with an extended blog roll in the future to share with everyone and possibly highlight some of my favorites!
