Flagler Organics–December 7, 2010

Green butter lettuce, green kale, rainbow carrots w/tops (Ignore the date and time on the pictures…it got all messed up for some reason.)

Bananas, satsuma mandarins, green pepper, baby bok choy, celery

Hass avocado, garlic, gala apples, red bartlett pears, green beans

I loved the green beans the last time so I’m looking forward to these.  I made them as a side by boiling until cooked, then tossing the green beans with some olive oil and basil.

I still have all the apples from the last three baskets–I am so amazed by how well they keep!–so I’m planning on making an apple crisp with them.  This is the recipe I’m going to try: Apple Crisp.  It’s meant to be for diabetics, which I am not, but I don’t think that really matters.  It sounds so good and easy to make, which I’m all about!

Flagler Organics–November 30, 2010

Since I’m a little behind this week, I’m going to just jump right into the wonderful organic fruits and vegetables I’ve received this week.  Sometimes pictures are all you need!

Green leaf lettuce, collards, broccoli crowns, yellow onion

Roma tomatoes, kiwi, bananas, Cameo apples, Atualfo mango, Ruby grapefruit

Yellow squash, bicolor corn, cucumber

My cranberries were delivered Thanksgiving morning and I couldn’t be more thrilled!  They are gorgeous and I can’t wait to use them!

I’m going to make cranberry muffins using this recipe.

Flagler Organics–November 23, 2010

Another wonderful fruit and veggie basket this week specifically geared towards Thanksgiving!  Of course, we don’t make a Thanksgiving meal in our house.  My parents do Thanksgiving and we do Christmas.  So I’ll have to find other uses for the wonderful food we got this week.

Romaine lettuce, green beans, cremini mushrooms, red seedless grapes

Don’t the mushrooms look wonderful!?!  The picture really doesn’t do them justice…I think I’m the most excited over them than any of the others.  I can’t wait to taste them!

Grape tomatoes, bananas, apples (they were an unexpected addition…not sure what kind they are, but the fruit basket they sell has Braeburn apples so perhaps that’s what these are), celery, parsley, white pearl onions

Hass avocado, sweet potato, Yukon gold potatoes, carnival squash, carrots, Robinson tangerines

Well, I thought I was getting fresh cranberries today, but apparently I’m not. :-(   When we picked up our basket yesterday, the cranberries were not in yet.  She asked what I’d like to do, pick them up later or have them delivered.  Before I could decide, she said they would deliver them today so I didn’t make any plans to pick them up.  But no cranberries delivered today… *sigh*  Either that or they are going to deliver them really, really late because they have a lot of deliveries to make today. I’ll add a picture, if they do, otherwise I’ll have to see what’s going on next week.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone tomorrow!

Flagler Organics–November 16, 2010

Another week of organic fruit and veggies.  I really like seeing what I’ve gotten each week!

My husband used the eggplant from last week and made a wonderful sauce to put over pasta!  It was so good!

The red chard from a couple weeks ago was trashed.  I could never figure out what to do with it and from what I heard I’m not the only one.  We were supposed to get some more this week and I was cringing over it.  Thankfully, the person that’s handling the orders for us let them know and they switched it out for celery, which I use a lot!

Here’s this week’s basket:

Red butter lettuce, celery, bok choy

Zucchini, beets, kiwi, granny smith apples, tomato, cucumber, broccoli, pineapple, bananas

Other than the beets, this is probably the basket I’m going to find the easiest to use, though it may take some time to figure out how to cut the pineapple.  I’m sure I’ll find a video showing me how online!

More Fruit and Veggies!

November 11, 2010 2 comments

I missed taking pictures of the wonderful organic fruits and veggies I got last week from Flagler Organics.  We had plums, oranges, red chard, bok-choy, and lots more.  To make sure we’re using everything I’ve started to list what we have along with some possible uses.

Unfortunately we have lost a few items.  I’m still learning what goes in the fridge, what stays out on the counter, and how long they’ll last.

Also, some of my recipes haven’t all been good.  I made kale chips the last time we got it and they turned out good, but the sweet potato chips were horrible!  Some were burned, some were still not crisp.  It was a real mess!

I’m bound to make more mistakes and lose a few more items now and then, but it’s all a learning experience!

This is what was in this week’s basket:

Red Leaf Lettuce, Spinach, Parsley, Green Kale

Carrots w/Tops, Eggplant, Black Seedless Grapes

Yukon Gold Potato, Yellow Squash (wasn’t on the list…they seem to throw other things in at the last minute), Avocado, Red Delicious Apples, Navel Oranges, Bananas

Any recipe ideas on what I could make using the eggplant and one for the red chard?

Another Week of Organic Fruits and Veggies

October 26, 2010 2 comments

I am really loving getting new organic fruits and veggies each week from Flagler Organics!  I already can’t wait to see what we get next week and I just got this week’s basket!

So far with last week’s basket I’ve used:

  • the organic broccoli in a shrimp and pasta dish
  • the boys ate the bananas and one of the gala apples
  • the boys and I shared the organic grapes
  • we made a salad the first night with the romaine lettuce, the cucumber, and one of the roma tomatoes plus we had the bread with the same meal
  • the remaining two roma tomatoes were used in a sausage and egg bake
  • and my oldest son and I ate the strawberries.

I’ll be using the rest of the fruits and veggies from the first basket this week with this week’s basket!

Red butter lettuce, artichoke, bartlet pears, green peppers

Green kale, celery (it wasn’t even on the list!)

Yukon gold potatoes, black seedless grapes, hass avocado, red delicious apples

Garlic, yellow squash, bananas

First Flagler Organics Basket

I got my first basket of fruit and vegetables today from Flagler Organics.  I am beyond thrilled with it!

I love that it’s like a surprise each week as to what types of fruits and veggies we’ll be getting.  We don’t find out until the day before.

Here are some pics of my first basket:

The whole basket

Bananas, roma tomatoes, flavor fall pluots, strawberries, red seedless grapes

Romaine lettuce, carrots, broccoli

Gala apples, cucumber, zucchini, sweet potato

They gifted me with a loaf of bread for my first order!
